The Master of Arts in Transatlantic Affairs brings together the College of Europe and The Fletcher School at Tufts University. Through study in Europe and the United States, you will learn to examine international issues from different academic, political and cultural perspectives—and to translate that knowledge into practical action.

Transatlantic affairs cannot be fully understood from only one side of the ocean. At the College of Europe and The Fletcher School, you will encounter European and American approaches to diplomacy, policy, economics, law and international cooperation.

MATA students choose among four academic tracks connected to the College’s Bruges and Natolin campuses, while Fletcher coursework spans international law and organisations; diplomacy, history and politics; and economics and international business.
Learn from academics and practitioners
Develop your expertise through interdisciplinary courses, policy discussions and interaction with people who research, negotiate and implement transatlantic policies.
All MATA students participate in a year-long joint course on US–EU relations. The wider programme also includes study at the partner institution, a transatlantic internship and opportunities to engage with policy stakeholders.
Turn knowledge into professional experience
Apply what you have learned through a high-level internship in an international or national institution, the private sector, a think tank or civil society. The College of Europe and Fletcher support students in their internship search, and the programme connects academic study with professional development.
Build a network across two continents
As a MATA student, you become part of the communities of both the College of Europe and The Fletcher School. After graduation, you join the alumni networks of both institutions, creating opportunities to build professional relationships in Europe, the United States and beyond.
MATA graduates pursue careers in international organisations, diplomacy, public administration, policy research, consulting, business, civil society and academia. Their work spans subjects including security, trade, technology, climate, energy and European and international affairs.
Earn a jointly awarded, 120-ECTS Master of Arts in Transatlantic Affairs and become part of two international academic communities. The programme takes place over four semesters and includes study at both the College of Europe and The Fletcher School.
