Migration and Human Rights Nest

Mentor: Dr Patrycja SASNAL

During this academic year’s meetings and discussions of the Natolin Migration and Human Rights Nest, the phenomenon of migration will be addressed from a human rights perspective. The approach will include a thorough analysis of the European Union and its Member States' legal obligations to both migrants and EU citizens, recognizing the multifaceted nature of migration and its impact on various demographics. Key topics will include climate-induced migration, exploration of the legal frameworks established for global governance of migration and the roles of international organizations in protecting the rights of migrants and refugees. Furthermore, the gender dimension of migration will be analysed, while also examining the experiences and rights of minorities within migratory contexts.

The discourse will be contextualized within ongoing political developments in Europe’s neighbourhood and beyond, paying particular attention to current migratory trends at the EU’s southern and eastern borders. The situation in key countries of origin and host countries—such as Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Afghanistan, Syria, Turkey, and the United States—will be examined alongside the implementation of EU and other international and global regulations on migration.

Moreover, the Migration and Human Rights Nest will accommodate diverse activities and student initiatives, ensuring these endeavours are tailored to be useful for the students' future career plans. Through these comprehensive discussions and activities, the Nest aims to provide a robust platform for understanding and addressing the complexities of migration from a human rights perspective.
