About the College:

Welcome to the laboratory of European integration!

The College of Europe, with its Bruges campus established in 1949 and its Natolin campus established in 1992, is the oldest postgraduate institute of European studies. Currently, the College of Europe hosts 340 students in Bruges and 120 students in Natolin. Students come from 50 nationalities every year and follow advanced Master’s programmes of 10-month duration in a residential format (“studying and living Europe together”).

In January 2024, in the frame of the EU Funded IPA Project: 'Preparatory phase for the establishment of a College of Europe campus in Tirana (Albania)’, the College expanded its reach by establishing a branch in Tirana, Albania, aiming to uphold academic excellence and strengthen regional ties. In this context we are seeking applications for the position of Students Affairs Officer (100% FTE) to contribute to the student experience and the development of the academic community. The successful candidate will be hired and contribute to the execution of the EU funded Project: “Implementation phase for the establishment of a College of Europe campus in Tirana (Albania)”, IPA 2024 455-237.

Criteria for the Position:

The ideal candidate should:

 

  • Possess a Master’s degree in social sciences, Psychology, Political Sciences, Communication and related fields;
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably working with students/youth or in an educational environment;
  • Be engaged, eager to address student needs with empathy, and ready to solve everyday issues with the aim of creating a safe and thriving campus community;
  • Have good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and self-organize; 
  • Have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • Be able to network with professionals and establish partnerships with key institutions and organizations;
  • Be proficient in Albanian and English (knowledge of French would be an asset);
  • Be digitally competent (MS Office, Google Suite);
  • Have an  interest in developing the areas of student affairs and student welfare;
  • Demonstrate eagerness, flexibility, and creativity in supporting students in the organization of extracurricular activities;
  • Be open-minded and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in dealing with both students and colleagues;
  • Be able to handle confidential information in a discrete manner; 
  • Willing to accept flexible working hours.

Position Overview:

The Students Affairs Officer will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Play a pivotal role in contributing to the student experience, acting as their first point of contact on non-academic matters and ensuring  a smooth running thereof;
  • Take care of student onboarding through pro-active communication and organization of activities, including the establishment of clear arrival (and departure) guidelines;
  • Ensure the students' well-being during their stay in Tirana, focusing on both their physical and mental health, and referring to external professionals where needed;
  • Provide guidance and support to students throughout their stay in Tirana, covering areas such as, inter alia, administrative matters, student-staff cooperation and daily life in Tirana;
  • Assist and coordinate student-led extracurricular events ranging from stand-alone conferences, national/cultural days, week-long projects, and others;
  • Liaise with the different services of the College of Europe in Tirana, as well as external stakeholders, to provide the necessary student support.

Additional Information:

The Students Affairs Officer will report to the Head of Administration, based in Tirana, while also engaging in collaborative efforts with the Student Affairs Office at the College of Europe in Bruges.

The contract is expected to run until August 2025, with the potential for extension. The anticipated commencement is projected to be in early July 2024.
