Fireside Chat by the Natolin Media and Disinformation Nest: "The Stories behind the Stories: A Journey into Journalism"

On Thursday, 25 January 2024, the Natolin Media and Disinformation Nest hosted a Fireside Chat: "The Stories behind the Stories: A Journey into Journalism", featuring three guest speakers sharing their experiences in the world of journalism.

The talk covered challenges in journalism and the media sphere, with a focus on the intricacies of reporting on war, with speakers sharing their worldwide experiences and stories of reporting on conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Nagorno Karabakh, Syria and Ukraine; corresponding on Asia; and dealing with disinformation and media manipulation.

About the speakers:

Swiss journalist and author Mr Raphael MINDER is the Central Europe correspondent for the Financial Times, re-joining them in 2022 after reporting as the FT’s Asia regional correspondent between 2000-2010. Having previously covered Spain and Portugal for the New York Times, he is the author of two books about Spain.

Polish journalist and author Mr Paweł PIENIĄŻEK has reported on wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Nagorno Karabakh, Syria and Ukraine in his eleven years of experience, has written four books and was fellow at the Poynter Fellowship at Yale University in 2015. His work has appeared in media such as “Open Democracy”, "Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty", “Gazeta Wyborcza”, and “Tygodnik Powszechny”.

Award-winning freelance reporter Ms Jane LYTVYNENKO specialises in visual and online investigations, with work appearing in the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, the Atlantic, MIT Tech Review. Currently focusing on Russia’s war in Ukraine, Ms LYTVYNENKO was a senior research fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Shorenstein Center and a senior technology reporter at BuzzFeed News in Toronto, investigating online disinformation and media manipulation.
