The Natolin Security and Defence Society (NSDS) organised its first event of the New Year on Thursday, 9 January 2020. The panel discussion was moderated by the NSDS cluster leader Mr Niklas MAYER.
After reaching a peak during 2015, the number of entries into European territory declined sharply, in part thanks to an agreement with the Turkish government. This quantitative decline did not put an end to migration debates. On the contrary, several European governments called for stricter migration policies, and some linked migration to identity questions.
In order to present the current situation and answer student questions, the NSDS invited three guests:
- Dr Małgorzata BONIKOWSKA, President of the Polish Think-Tank "Center for International Relations";
- Mr Krzysztof BOROWSKI, Head of Editorial and Social Media Team for Frontex;
- Mr Pablo ROJAS COPPARI, Migration and Freedom of Movement Advisor at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Organised at the beginning of the 5-year term of the new EU Commission and the emergence of debates about a "European way of life", this panel-discussion was of symbolic and intellectual significance.
