About the course

The Intensive Seminar on the European Union is a two- or one-week training programme providing professionals with in-depth knowledge and practical skills on EU governance, policies and priorities. Participants can choose the programme that best suits their interests and needs.  

Governance Programme: A two-week programme detailing the institutional framework and the EU’s main internal and external policies. This programme is for participants who look to closely examine the governance, structure and institutional set-up of the EU, as well as negotiations and EU Public Affairs.

Policies and Priorities Programme: A one-week programme offering a practical and insightful review of the main legislative priorities of the von der Leyen Commission and the hot topics at the heart of the European politics, as well as a deep-dive into the larger policy portfolios. This programme is aimed at participants who are well acquainted with both the institutional framework and the EU’s general policy area’s but are looking for the latest updates in the field, and especially on certain policies.

Both programmes combine different learning approaches:

  • Dynamic and interactive lectures and training sessions, examining theoretical and practical aspects of EU decision-making and policies;
  • Skills-oriented workshops designed to identify and develop essential practical skills;
  • Study visits, to exchange with and learn directly from EU officials (only for the Governance Programme);
  • Self-paced learning modules prior to the start of the programme (only for the Governance Programme);
  • Keynote speeches and debates with high-level speakers;
  • Simulation exercises where participants are confronted with actual conditions and constraints of the decision-making procedures (only for the Governance Programme).
